Dear Women Lawyers on Guard Action Network,
Saturday, June 14 is “NO KINGS” Day.
Let’s be clear. Protests in Los Angeles and around the country have railed against the inhumane, illegal and unconstitutional whisking away of immigrants who are required to check in with ICE officials as part of their immigration cases. 99% of these protests have been peaceful – even in LA. The ones that have not been, were controlled by California law enforcement. So, let’s again be clear. The calling up the National Guard in military garb to incite rather than quell violence, and to create an excuse to impose martial law on this country, impels us to take (non-violent) action – now more than ever.
It’s important to be visible and vocal. Wherever you will be this Saturday, June 14, there will be a place you can go for an hour to express your opposition to illegal and unconstitutional actions. Today they come for immigrants in LA (arresting and deporting them without due process when they come for routine check-ins), tomorrow they will be coming into communities around the country without regard to whether people are citizens. The expenses are written into the Big Ugly Budget Bill.
The point of this “No Kings” day is to gather outside of DC to shun the costly, authoritarian-style military parade in downtown DC. There are thousands of gatherings planned – all outside DC. Not to dishonor our military, but instead to indicate our support of the Constitution and our laws. We, as lawyers and as the general public, will not put up with the destruction of our rule of law, our judiciary, or our democracy
Here’s the link to find the location nearest you. Please ask all your friends to attend with you; organize one if there is no event in your community. Saving democracy is a team effort. https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/map/?show_all_events=true
If you are in the DC area on the 14th and would like to join us at a rally, we will be meeting in Falls Church, VA in the morning. Hit “Reply” for more details
Thank you for showing up!
