Once again, courts are disregarding the judgment of scientists and physicians in favor of political, religious-based, and misogynistic ideology in the Fifth Circuit’s ruling in Danco Laboratories v. Louisiana.

Despite more than 25 years of safe use and strong medical consensus supporting mifepristone, the ruling last week ignores science and decades of history showing the safe and efficacious use of mifepristone here in the US – and abroad – improperly inserting the courts into what should be a medical decision made by pregnant people and their families, and thus denying key rights to  millions across the United States.

The Fifth Circuit’s order eliminates telemedicine access to mifepristone—cutting off a critical, and in many cases only, pathway to care for patients in states with abortion bans or severe restrictions.

“The impact will be immediate. For millions of women… obtaining mifepristone through telemedicine is the only way to access abortion care.”

The manufacturers have filed an emergency application in the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to stay this harmful decision.

We will continue to stand for the right of every person to access safe, evidence-based reproductive health care and to make decisions about their own lives and bodies free from government interference.
